Description

Sylvie Esmonin is a renowned winemaker in Gevrey-Chambertin, Burgundy. She took over her family’s estate, Domaine Sylvie Esmonin, in the 1990s, becoming one of the few female winemakers in the region. Known for her meticulous vineyard management and traditional winemaking techniques, Esmonin produces wines that are celebrated for their elegance, depth, and expressive terroir. Her wines, particularly those from the prestigious Clos Saint-Jacques vineyard, are highly sought after by collectors and connoisseurs.

75+ year old vines, the Vieilles Vignes is made from a number of plots, including Esmonin’s tiny parcel of the 1er Cru Clos Prieur Aged in 50% new oak and 50% in one year old oak; 50% whole cluster

Moderate wood sets off ripe and very fresh aromas of black cherry, spice, violet and a whiff of the sauvage. The succulent and notably denser medium weight plus flavors flash focused power on the youthfully austere, firm and balanced finale. As it usually does, this fine effort boxes well above it weight. Outstanding. Score 90-93 Drink 2030+ Alan Meadows BURGHOUND.COM Jan 2022
