2022 Domaine Nicolas Faure ‘Nuits-Saint-Georges’, Burgundy, France

$720.00

Extremely hard to get hold of!  Incredibly rare bottle.

The cultivation and brewing methods are extensively adopted by DRC, and the wine is aged for 12 months in the same company’s barrels used once.

“One barrel has been made, half from the usual plot in Aux Herbues and half from a new plantation of Coteaux des Bois planted on individual stakes in 2017. Bright and fresh mid red raspberry as well as the spice. Quite sensual overall. Super fresh with good acidity, more raspberry. Very interesting potential. Drink from 2027-2034” 93 points, Jasper Morris

Description

A must-see for lovers of the legendary high-end Burgundy

A very limited quantity of the long-awaited 2022 vintage from Nicolas Faure, famous for its extremely rare and extremely hard-to-find Nuits-Saint-Georges, with extremely small production of only 300 bottles per year, has arrived!

He served as a full-time employee of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti for five years, and since 2015 has been in charge of cultivation and brewing at Domaine Prieuré-Roch, who is also a co-owner of DRC!

Pinot Noir is grown in natural (extremely strict lutte raisonnée) vineyards from vieilles vignes, about 30 years old. – Aged for 12 months in La Romanée-Conti DRC barrels used once, and unfiltered, this is the ultimate Nuits-Saint-Georges, produced only in this vintage (in fact, no production at all in 2023)!

Owner Nicolas Faure’s wine philosophy is to “pursue three points: aroma, complex flavor, and long finish.” Another promising new star is born!

“Here’s something that not many people know about Nicolas Faure. No, it’s not that he’s married to Amélie Berthaut.  Or he makes wines that, I think to his bemusement, have developed a cult following. Or that he once worked at a small producer called Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. Or that he makes a Riesling in Burgundy. No, Faure loves mature Bordeaux. He’s probably the only one with a genuine passion for proper old-school claret and has empty mementos of bygone bacchanals to prove it. He’ll probably be leafing through my Complete Bordeaux Vintage Guide more than anyone else in Burgundy. In the meantime, Faure is pushing the boundaries with a small range of wines from vines pruned Poussard with two canes, employing low-intervention winemaking with 100% use of whole bunches for the reds.
His portfolio also now includes a pure Pinot Blanc, hitherto blended with Chardonnay, and that aforementioned Riesling – the perfect bottle to bring to a Burgundy-themed dinner where wines are being served blind (although legally it must be labeled as Vin de France). Faure is always candid about his wines, mentioning whenever he felt he might have picked too late. The 2022 posed the challenge of wines tasting as ripe as he would like but at around 12% alcohol or even just under. His wines wear their hearts on their sleeves. They don’t make claims for greatness, but he happens to make one of the best Aligotés out there. Quantities are extremely small and his wines are in high demand”. Neil Martin-Vinous
